Are the Needs of the Elderly being meet in Nursing Homes? What happened the other day – where a Nurse set fire to a Nursing Home hi-lights the system is wrong. I am not saying that the person was right, or the person was wrong – but the Nurse that set fire to the Quakers Hill Nursing Home  – that is something that I am not surprised happened.

Why Would An RN Set Fire To A Nursing Home?

The needs of the Elderly are not being looked after – that is because of our lack of caring system. Our Nurses are pushed to the limit, we are worked over time, we are under paid, and we are filling our Nursing Homes with more elderly people – but the system is not employing more staff.

Why Would Any Nurse Do That?

I cant speak on behalf of the RN who set fire to the Nursing Home. I cant speak on why anyone would do that, because as an Aged Care Nurse I don’t get it – we are employed to care about our elderly. But I do get the system……and that is what is wrong.

Our system takes the best of the best carers and it breaks them. That is what I have seen time and time again. Good nurses are hard to find, but what makes a good nurse stay good at their job?

What Is So Sad

RIPWhat is so sad after all of this – is that seven elderly people have died. They are the victims here, and they can never be replaced. What will it take for our aged care system to look at how Nursing Homes are run?

The Needs of the Elderly must always be put first….they must be the reason why the good nurses keep working! Their needs are why Nurses need to speak out – speak out for those that don’t have a voice. I am one of those Nurses – and I will always be standing up for the elderly.

May those that died rest in peace for ever more – may you sleep with sweet dreams, and may the angels take care of you.

For those that don’t agree with what I think is wrong with the system – then may you start to understand. Nurses need more.

The Elderly need more

They need more staff.

They need more caring staff.

They need more time

They need more one-on-one contact

They need to know that they are the most important people in the world.

They are Grandparents, Great Grandparents, they are Mums/Dads, Brothers, Sisters, Uncle, Aunties…they are people with a heart.

Nursing Issues in Aged Care facility will always be plagued with trouble.

Unless something changes.

How many more have to die before the system changes?
